Fashionable Home

I really never thought about what the home of Carine Roitfeld would like but now that I think about it, I don’t know if I would have pictured it being this clean and modern. Carine is the uber sexy Editor and Chief of French Vogue who always wears extraordinary heels and whose hair always seems to be falling in her face. Her home is featured in New Paris Interiors from Taschen and on Fashion Week Daily. I do love the French mouldings and classical details but I’m not sure what that big piece of furniture is doing in the middle of the hallway in the last photo. If anyone has a guess, please let me know.

    Maybe it is art?

Anonymous – I think it is a piece of furniture. A closet perhaps?

Oh wow…I would’ve never expected her apartment to be this sparse either! This isn’t my personal style but I didn’t expect it to be hers either. It just feels so cold, so distant. The hard edges and modern minimalism seem so out of tune with the gorgeous, traditional french moldings. I think the big pieces are furniture but are placed to have artistic effect? I just can’t imagine living in a space without comfortable couches, books, flowers, and photos of my loved ones. Otherwise it doesn’t feel like a home, ya know? :-/

I read in New Paris Interiors that the ‘2001:A Space Odyssey’-like monolith is for storage. I think this apartment is perfect. Her office is also VERY minimal and toned down.

    Thanks for posting it!!

that is indeed a strange piece. but in an apartment which seems that nobody inhabits, it is fine. or perhaps like in the john pawson apartments, someone does live there, but you don’t see all their crap as it is hidden in closets.

Looks like the movers couldn’t get it through the doorway to the bedroom and left it sitting in the hall.
