Decorating is Exhausting!
by habituallychic
06 . 24 . 08Habitually Chic is pooped! I spent all weekend shopping for the Bachelor Pad and all of tonight at the apartment checking projects off my list. Things are progressing slowly but surely. I am about to order most of the lamps so hopefully the other pieces of furniture will arrive soon so I have something to put them and all the accessories I purchased over the weekend on! I found a lot of amazing pieces at Calypso Home, which is also having a 40% off sale on some of their furniture. I think I might order a few chairs from them.
For now, I stash all my fabulous purchases in the coat closet to keep them out of harms way. Makes me feel like a wife who hides her bags from Bergdorfs from her husband. Right now, I’m going to go put on a face mask and get ready for an early bedtime because decorating really is exhausting! I promise to post something more interesting tomorrow so definitely check back! Nite nite!

Exhausting, but Glamourous, no!
Looking forward to seeing all the progress.
I have a question about bedside lamps. My bedroom has no overhead lighting and I’d like to have matching lamps on either side of the bed. I’m also in the market for bedside tables… but as I’m looking around I realized that I’m not sure what the standard measuring device is. Should the tables be level with the top of the mattress or higher? How tall should the lamps be? I brought home a lamp that I liked from Target but had to return it because it looked ridiculously small in the room. Is there a standard rule for these sizing issues? Thank you!
Oh, and I just wanted to say that I’ve been lurking on your blog for several weeks and can’t get enough!
Thanks Patricia!
Hi Maggie, Let’s see if I can help without confusing you more.
The standard for bedside tables is about is about 16″ – 25″ high. The rule of thumb is that they should be the same height as the mattress so if you have a low platform bed it would obviously be lower than a regular bed with a mattress and boxspring.
Another thing to keep in mind when choosing lamps is that they work for you to be able to read in bed as well as look good in the room. You can also buy taller lamps if you have a taller headboard or large artwork above the bed. A lot of people have been choosing task lights now as bedside lamps so that’s also another option.
While there are standards, and some people are very strict about measuring, as long as it looks good to you, they should be fine.
I hope this helps!
I can’t eait to see the results! And a feel for you…the work of a designer is never done. 🙂
It does, thanks! I guess I should get measuring and shopping now!
