My Favorite Artist
by habituallychic
05 . 09 . 08My favorite artist, Elizabeth Peyton, is also having an exhibition in New York through May 17th at Gavin Brown’s enterprise. I dream of owning one of her hauntingly beautiful portraits someday which will require me to work really hard to be able to afford it since her work has continued to skyrocket in price. But until then, I’m going to have to make do by visiting the gallery and looking at her book again. Sigh.

she is my favorite!… But at $50,000 it’s a long way off 🙁
I just found your blog, and I adore it! I’ll be back often! 🙂

wow, beautiful stuff!!!!!
Nice work. I especially like that same red/coral color she uses in a number of her paintings. I have an old friend who is a painter living in the city. He does these incredibly precise, surreal paintings. Unfortunately I don’t think he’s ever managed to make a living doing it.
Have a good, rainy day!
what is she painting on? paper?, the edges add a great effect, than just a simple straight canvas.
Lovely paintings…I love the brush strokes. When I paint I have a way of mixing all the colors while they are on the canvas. This work kind of reminds me of that.
I love the reds and vilots she uses.
I hadn’t heard of her yet, but these are fantastic!! I’m an art history major so I consider myself to be somewhat of an art-snob (a nice one though) but these are absolutely gorgeous! wow! thanks for the recommendation.
Agreed. A wonderful artist. Haunting is a good word – they are ‘other worldly’.
