Happy Earth Day!

Did you know that New York actually has a very low carbon footprint compared to the rest of the US? “The city’s emissions were just under one percent of the nation’s, with about 2.7 percent of the national population of 300 million. That means the city emits only about one-third as much as the rest of the nation does on average, mostly because of its strong city and metro region public transit.” The city was one of the first to switch to “clean fuel” buses which is a huge help but I also like to think it has something to do with the fact that Central Park accounts for 843 acres of the city. There are also many other parks and green areas, including the median on Park Avenue above that blooms every spring with tulips. Happy Earth Day!

Love the city in the spring – lived for a few years on Thompson Street just below Washington Square Park and loved the kwazan cherry trees that bloom there in the spring. Everyone thinks they’re apple blossoms but they’re mistaken – when I bought a house in CT, the first thing I did was plant one of those trees. You should also mention that most New Yorkers either walk or take the subway during the day and only cab it at night.

Being a Chicago gal thru and thru, I was very impressed with NYC the handful of times I have been there. I still remember my first time to Central Park – it was incredible!! We have Grant Park here but…..Central Park blows it away!

    i wanted to stay

I walked down Park last night…Park Ave. and the city is finally coming alive again!! The flowers are so beautiful!

P.S. I’m recently a new fan of Gossip Girl, it’s helping to fill my void of Sex and the City.

Marie Louise, I wish I lived downtown. That sounds like fun! The trees are all in bloom here and it’s so beautiful and the weather has been perfect! But, we’re all suffering for the beauty with allergies so everyone is highly medicated at the moment!

And yes, I think everyone I know walks to work or takes the subway. I miss being able to walk but the subway is not too terrible.

Susan, I’m going to have to take a walk in Central Park soon and take some photos. I’m sure it’s looking amazing right now!
