Habitually Chic Designer: David Lawrence
by habituallychic
04 . 25 . 08There was a considerable buzz in the office yesterday afternoon after an email arrived from a former employee announcing the new website for his interior design studio and it was justified. David Lawrence has a great eye and a very sophisticated design style. He credits his passion for classic and timeless lines to my current firm and it shows.
David Lawrence
For a minute I thought had come out of nowhere but then I recognized the apartment he helped rework for Domino magazine March 2006 cover girl Haylynn Cohen. I always loved that living room!
I really love how David tailors his designs to the space and the type of project. Sometimes what works in a city home isn’t the same as what works in the country and it takes a good designer to adapt their style accordingly.
I hope you will check out David Lawrence’s designs and website. I really enjoyed his “process” section where he outlines his approach, the specification & ordering phase and the installation process. I think every designer should spell out exactly what is involved when they hire an interior designer.
He’s also hiring a design assistant and intern if anyone is looking for a new job!

Yeah, I like his stuff – very nice. If I had an interior design budget, I’d definitely hire him!
Although he does say on his site, “Guests walking into a home..should get an unmistakable sense of the people living there”.
Hmmm…I think I’ve got that look going already.
I just discovered your blog. I live in Kansas City and it’s linked on the metrostew website. Every single picture is gorgeous. I’m not a designer, but truely appreciate your talent! I’m also fascinated with the whole NYC world.
Looking forward to more!
i adore the first photo with all the variation of blue and white..gorgeous!!
Thanks for the link

I loved reading the process section of his website. I appreciate the focus on the client and continued satisfaction; it sounds like once a relationship with a client is established, he will be there for you as your needs and your world changes.
Oh Marie Louise, I definitely have a “lived in look” going on in my apartment right now so don’t feel bad.
Hi Anonymous, Thanks! So glad you stopped by! I will have a big announcement regarding KCHD magazine and who knows, we might just be running into each other in KC soon 😉
Silvia, The first photo reminded me a bit of the RL look but I was glad to find out that David’s style is more expansive than that!
Things that Inspire, sometimes designers wish they could get rid of clients after they finish a project so I applaud David for being there for them for the long haul.
Hi ,I enjoyed looking at your Blog and also your latest offering ..
David Lawrence ..I liked his design style but it still left me feeling a little cold and I felt that even though his aim is to make a place lived in it still seemed somewhat over styled and impersonal , sort of a hotel room type feeling . I don’t know maybe the last comment is a bit harsh because obviously he has a lot of talent . Mx
He has a great portfolio, and a lovely looking website. Any prizes for guessing where you are working now?…Looking forward to your big announcement too!
he’s amazing, isn’t he? always a breath of fresh air. he is one of those designers that always add the perfect amount of black to a room. the perfect amount. gorgeous!
AMAZING! I love his designs!!! I wish I lived in NYC so I could apply to be his design assistant! I love all the artwork and the lamps…ooooh the lamps! He’s perfect!
