Become Your Dream

While I was walking home one day last week, I passed the “Become Your Dream” graffiti on a board in the trash pile. It was created by the famous New York sidewalk philosopher/artist James De La Vega. I’d been thinking about writing some more inspirational posts to get people to find their bliss so it seemed like a good sign…literally and figuratively. But I understand that it’s hard to take the first step so I’ve been talking to a few people who’ve gone out and started their own companies to learn exactly what it takes to be your own boss and “become your dream”. I’ll be posting them from time to time starting tomorrow but in the meantime, I’d love to know…what is your dream???

    1. Own a profitable store.

    2. Own a beach house in the San Juan Islands in Washington State.

    3. Eat everything I want and not get fat.

    4. Have a singing voice like Cat Power.

    5. Play guitar like Shawn Colvin.

6.Have a triple hammock at our beach house so we can watch the stars together, Jon, Nick, and me.

    7. Get a 2nd pug.

That’s it. Only #3 and #4 will be impossible, and the rest are in reach. Life is looking up for me.

Fun question – thanks for that!

I want to be a brand…My ultimate would be to start a lifestyle brand that covers fashion and homeware (almost like Ralph Lauren, but different) which would then extend into a few boutique hotels(or at least one) that immerses people in the complete experience of my brand. I’ve already started on it by developing a range of bags (starting small) while still trying to manage my 8-20+h00 job in ad world! Aaarrgghh! i hate not doing what I love!!

    Hello fellow stylish New Yorker!

My Dream – to paint! I want live in a huge white house with my huge family, and spend my days painting on the wrap around porch, watching my kids play on the lawn, chatting to my husband….

(got to get married, have the kids, buy the house, decorate it, and paint more…just a little ‘to do’ list!)

check out my blog and you’ll see my dream kitchen!! lvsliving.blogspot.com

After working in a career that just didn’t fit for 20 years, I decided that it was time to quit and strike out on my own. My dream: own a shop/gallery. On one side, handmade stylish goods, on the other side of the shop to show fine art paintings. I have the one half of the dream already, now it just remains to someday find the shop/gallery.
Thanks for all the inspiring posts!

    2. To own a beautiful home.

    3. To own a home design store.

    4. To not be a lawyer.

    5. To stop puppy mills and needless suffering of dogs.

    6. To have many, many pugs and someone to clean up their hair!

Be a nurse! I love all of this design stuff but it leaves me feeling a little empty – I want to help people and not in a “I’ve found the perfect shade of blue for your walls” way – but I just can’t swing the tuition right now…one day!!

I’m still in highschool but my dreams are:

    To help people

To travel to places I’ve never been to (Especially Italy!)

And to live my life to the fullest!

    Great Blog!

    Thanks,

To have my own design business where the emphasis would be editing as much as decorating. The only thing holding me back on doing this (and my lost loves of cycling and painting) is the lack of time.

I’m working on my first dream now (a business of my own, with a steady income) but an official announcement is still a little while off.

Plus, I’d love to have a beach house in Australia to go home to each year, and be able to travel more!

Well, one dream was to try living and working in the US – so far, so good. Infact, good is too bland to describe it…so fabulous!

But I can’t rest on that. Now I have to make the second two year stint even better and… also realise some of my more creative dreams (some of which are not even settled in my head yet)…

    1. To have a job I love going to each and everyday!

    2. To own a design store where I can also do my own graphic design. Much like http://www.raredevice.net but in Canada!

    3. To live where I can see the mountains. Vancouver will do but I’d love to be closer.

    4. To have a hammock on my porch and use it whenever it’s warm enough.

    5. To travel somewhere new, one month out of every year.

    4. To meet and talk to Oprah
