Into the Fire

As long as I’m discussing crushes, I should mention that I have a weird crush on Anthony Bourdain. I know you think I’m crazy. He’s too old. He drinks too much. He smokes too much. Probably does too many drugs. But he makes me laugh. And isn’t that what every woman wants. A man with a sense of humor?! I never laugh so hard as I do when I watch his show, No Reservations, on Bravo. He gets to travel to exotic places and eat his way through the entire trip. Sounds like a dream job to me!

Well, in last night’s episode, Into the Fire, Anthony goes back to his old job at Les Halles to see if has what it takes to work the line after eight years away. I think every person who loves to eat out should be required to watch the repeat of this show and see how many people and how much work goes into serving you a meal! It will also make you reconsider ever leaving a less than 20% tip ever again! And I guarantee you’ll get a good laugh out of it too!

    are we weird?

  2. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 1:24 am

Karina, Maybe unconvential is a better word than weird. Lol! I’m just glad I’m not the only one who has a crush on Anthony!

Greetings – I have never commented before and this is a weird one to begin with but I do have a thing for this guy…and I am so relieved I am not alone. Anyway, love your blog – Cheers!

FormerlyFifi, Welcome! Anthony should be honored that he led to your first comment! I think it’s his sarcastic sense of humor that gets me every episode!

  5. Dawn March 12, 2008 | 3:09 am

I too love Anthony!! I’m so glad it’s not just me. His sense of humor and adventure. He never shys away from suspect-looking food. At the very least I can live vicariously thru him. Loving the blog, as always.

  6. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 3:13 am

Dawn, One more for Anthony! I love it! I think we should start a fan club! Make him take us out to dinner. Hahahaha!

  7. Anne March 12, 2008 | 3:54 am

I guess he is attractive in a weird creepy kinda way…

  8. Decorno March 12, 2008 | 4:30 am

Oh, he’s hot. You’re not alone. Whip-smart and slightly cocky men do it for me.

  9. Mackenna March 12, 2008 | 7:34 am

ok so glad i saw this post. literally the only television i watch is his show, downloaded off of itunes (no evil tv box in my home). i LOVE him love him. i think perhaps the mixture of exotic locales and such a passion for food is what makes him so great. it screams “i want to go on an adventure with you” and i think that is something all women want. also food is just sexy anyway so… yeah. but glad i’m not the only one 🙂

  10. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 12:22 pm

Anne, The point is that he’s not attractive but it’s his personality and sense of humor that make him attractive. I don’t have a crush on his looks. Lol.

  11. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 12:23 pm

Decorno, I knew you would like him too! He’s a bit snarky too 😉

  12. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 12:26 pm

Mackenna, Wouldn’t he be so fun to travel with?! No one wants to spend time with a stick in the mud who is afraid to try new foods. He is definitely adventurous!

  13. Be the change..... March 12, 2008 | 1:11 pm

I think his attractiveness lies in his lips – beautiful. Is that weird? lol

  14. Brilliant Asylum March 12, 2008 | 4:28 pm

Oh yeah. I heart Tony–especially when he is on one of his surly rants about mass consumerism or American mediocrity. “No Reservations” is one of the shows that has me laughing out loud and running for a notebook to scribble down his quips. I loved reading “Kitchen Confidential” too.

I can’t wait to watch my Tivo’d “Into the Fire”.

  15. Alice Olive March 12, 2008 | 4:48 pm

A man who makes you laugh is indeed good!

(And frankly, he’s got a way to go before he’s too old. There’s my five cents worth!!)

  16. Richie Designs March 12, 2008 | 5:40 pm

I love a man who can handle a pan in the kitchen and just get it done.

    if only he didn’t smoke.

I do have a admiration of him though.

  17. Sadia Bruce March 12, 2008 | 5:43 pm

Anthony Bourdain is a god among men.

  18. Joanna Goddard March 12, 2008 | 6:20 pm

he is super super sexy. i’m with you all the way.

  19. Alyssa March 12, 2008 | 6:44 pm

I wonder if Anthony knows how many women apparently love him!?

He is hilarious and a lover of the good things in life!

  20. Jane Flanagan March 12, 2008 | 6:44 pm

I’ve a crush on him too (I think he looks like Leonard Cohen)… it would never work tho’ – I’m vegetarian and he hates us!

  21. Susan March 12, 2008 | 7:29 pm

I think he would be a bastard to be involved with demanding, bossy…but incredibly HoTT!

Maybe he could give you a few good tips.

    whips

  22. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:31 pm

Be the Change, Now I think you’re weird! Hahaha!

  23. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:32 pm

Brilliant Asylum, I agree! He certainly tells it liks it is and he’s always right. You’re going to love this episode!

  24. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:33 pm

Alice, what’s funny is that he kept saying how old he was in that episode since he had trouble bending down to get all the ingredients. Lol!

  25. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:34 pm

Richie, smoking is terrible but he probably wouldn’t be the same surly Anthony if he didn’t.

  26. SGM March 12, 2008 | 7:34 pm

I think your blog has become the unofficial Anthony Bourdain fan site!

I hate to admit it, but I’ve never watched him because I judged him on his looks and turned the channel before he even had a chance! I guess I’ll have to give him a second look.

  27. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:35 pm

Sadia, sounds like you have a bigger crush on him than me!

  28. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:36 pm

Joanna, welcome to the I Heart Anthony Bourdain Club!

  29. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:37 pm

Alyssa, I’ll have to send a link to the show. He’ll probably think we’re crazy! I also think one of us should enter the contest to travel with him. How fun would that be?!

  30. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:38 pm

Susan, he might be but I’m sure he’s share a beer with you at the end of the day. And he wouldn’t bust your chops! That’s a given!

  31. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 7:41 pm

SGM, You watch Real Housewives and Rock of Love but not Anthony Bourdain?! Shame on you! It’s the only reality show that doesn’t make me feel like I’m losing brain cells while I’m watching it. He’s also so snarky that I just know you will love him as much as the rest of us! I’ll make you an honorary member of the fan club for now!

  32. my little apartment March 12, 2008 | 11:26 pm

of course we all have crushes on him! he’s the definition of “bad boy”, he travels, he can cook, plus he’s got that sexy, older-guy-that-is-kinda-an-asshole vibe going on (like Big from SATC).

  33. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 11:30 pm

My Little Apartment, Great analogy! Everyone woman likes the bad boy. We’ll never learn!

  34. Habitually Chic March 12, 2008 | 11:32 pm

Jane, I’m sorry but I accidently rejected your comment. Stupid blogger! I’m also sorry to hear you are a vegetarian. I think I may have to deny your membership to the I Heart Anthony Bourdain Club. He might not talk to us if he hears their is a vegetarian in our midst! 😉

  35. Amy March 14, 2008 | 4:04 pm

I adore him. And he’s quit smoking! He says that ever since his daughter was born and he can’t smoke in the house, it’s too big of a hassle. So he quit. Good for him!

And his show is on the Travel Channel.

It’s funny, I come to your blog everyday for the lovely pictures, and it’s an AB post that gets me to post!

  36. Habitually Chic March 14, 2008 | 4:07 pm

Hi Amy, thanks for the fun comment! I thought everyone would think my crush and AB posts were silly but I still have people coming out of the woodwork telling me how much they loved them. You just never know what will strike a chord with everyone. Glad you also enjoyed it too!

  37. Cobalt Angel September 29, 2008 | 11:20 pm

no, you have plenty of company…I love Anthony’s style…

  38. hunkate March 9, 2009 | 5:08 am

I love No Reservations! I haven’t seen the Into the Fire episode but as I work in a restaurant, I think I pretty much know what went on.

I was so excited to eat at a restaurant in DC the other week that was featured on the show – I felt like Tony might pop out at any moment!

And as a (good?) server, yes PLEASE always tip me 20%! It’s practically never the servers’ faults if you get bad food (and I’d try to never take “bad” food to a table even if the kitchen gave it to me!). You can tell if you have a bad/lazy server – then, tip less – but otherwise, HELP us STARVING ARTISTS! 20% is the norm now, people!
