Autumn
by habituallychic
09 . 22 . 07Why did summer go so quickly
Was it something that I said
Lovers walking along the shore
Leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of this song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair
Was it something that I said
Lovers walking along the shore
Leave their footprints in the sand
Was the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand
Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of this song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
Were you suddenly aware
That the autumn leaves were turning
To the color of her hair

What a beautiful picture. We don’t have a real change of seasons out here in Las Vegas. It so nice to see it’s in full bloom. I’ll be in NY in a couple of weeks to enjoy it firsthand.

I just came across your blog and love, LOVE the photo here. I am tree person and miss NYC right now, so this was perfect. Looking forward to exploring more. Thanks!
RJH dl H, I can’t wait until the leaves really change here and I can go take photos in Central Park!
Jackie, New York in the fall is the absolute best time of year to visit! You’re going to have a great time!
Hi Rita, I’m so glad you found me and like my site! I will definitely be posting more New York stories so stop back often!
I have to say…bring it on! I am ready for fall. cashmere sweaters, knee high boots, fabulous leather jackets. Bring it, baby!
That’s a beautiful shot. Somehow autumn seems ‘delicately constructed’ – if that makes sense! Despite the vibrant colours, it always seems fragile compared to the other seasons.
Who wrote the poem? I love it!
Hi Meander, it’s not a poem it’s part of the song Windmills of Your Mind. It was part of the soundtrack to the original Thomas Crown Affair movie and then re-recorded by Sting for the remake of the Thomas Crown Affair. I’m not sure who wrote it though. Glad you like it.
