Humidity Proof Haircare for Summer 2022

Since the current heatwave shows no signs of abating, it feels like the right time to post my tips for humidity proof hair. I have very thick and naturally wavy highlighted hair that also blows out smooth very easily. My hair has not looked that bad this summer so I feel like I have finally hit upon the right combination or products that might help you too.

I was very loyal to Fekkai shampoo and conditioner for years but it just wasn’t the same after they changed their formula. I see Cherise Wilson at Marie Robinson for highlights every 6-8 weeks where they use this Wella Invigo Color Brilliance Shampoo and Conditioner. It cleans and conditions without weighing my hair down which I love.

Well conditioned and healthy hair is the key to managing frizz. If my hair feels dry after my highlights, I use this Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Prickly Pear Oil. I just realized that the description says it banishes frizz so I was on to something.

If Christophe Robin is out of your budget, I love this Pantene Pro-V Radiant Color Shine Conditioner for smoothing my hair.

In order to get a smooth blow out, you need a great brush to pull your hair and this Oribe Medium Round Brush is the Rolls-Royce of brushes. For a less expensive option, this Belula Boar Bristle Round Brush gets great reviews. It comes in different barrel sizes as well.

I started using Phytodéfrisant Botanical Smoothing Balm when I was young when I read that Jennifer Aniston used the product and I’ve never stopped. I love it so much that I stocked up on it from CityPharma when I was in Paris. I think it’s best for pre-blow dry. I don’t think it’s as great for air drying my hair.

This Olaplex No.7 Bonding Oil is a newer product that I’ve started using. I use it after I blow dry my hair but before I smooth it with the straightening iron. I love that it doesn’t make my hair greasy or limp.

I also switched to this CHI Original Ceramic Hair Straightening Flat Iron because it has rounded edges which mean I use it to create waves in my hair too.

Because I work from home, I have the luxury of time when it comes to finishing my hair. I use velcro rollers to add more volume which works for leaving it down or pulling it up in a ponytail.

Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade is a product that I use around my hairline to keep frizz at bay. A little goes a long way so start with the smallest amount first. The jar lasts forever because I just use a tiny amount each day. It’s also great for tamping down frizzy bits when you pull your hair back in a ponytail.

I really love Serge Normant products and the Serge Normant Meta Sheer Finishing Hair Oil is also wonderful for keeping my hair frizz free. I spray it on my brush and then run it through my hair.

The gold standard when it comes to preventing frizz is Oribe Impermeable Anti-Humidity Hair Spray. It holds my hair without making it sticky or weighed down and really works on humid and rainy days. I keep the large size in my bathroom and always pack the small size for traveling.

Another great brush for smoothing hair, especially for a ponytail, is the Mason Pearson Hair Brush because of its natural bristles.

I personally can’t go out without washing my hair but I will do it occasionally. I love this Morning After Shower Cap because it’s lined with terry cloth which absorbs moisture and steam.

If you’ve used to many products or your hair is greasy from sweat and not washing it for a few days, the Christophe Robin Cleansing Purifying Scrub with Sea Salt is the best product to clean it all away. I also love the Shade Variation Hair Mask for refreshing my highlights but I also think it helps smooth my hair.

I haven’t tried Oribe Invisible Defense Universal Protection Hair Spray, a weightless mist that protects hair from the damaging effects of heat styling, UV rays, and pollution while combating frizz, but it sounds perfect for summer so I just placed an order.

There is really nothing to be done when the temperature climbs above 90 degree but pull your hair up and this Sculptural Barrette Set is perfect for doing it chicly. They are also available in silver.

Or you could just pile all your hair into a bun using this chic Celine Scrunchy.

Bon week-end!

XOXO,
