The Queen’s Gambit

11 . 05 . 20If you are looking for something to distract you from the election vote count, I highly recommend The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix. It stars Anya Taylor Joy, who you might remember from EMMA, as “orphaned chess prodigy Beth Harmon who struggles with addiction in a quest to become the greatest chess player in the world.” I posted about it in my Instagram Stories and had at least ten people message that they watched it per my recommendation and loved it. I thought it was going to be a movie but it’s actually a seven episode limited series based on the book The Queen’s Gambit by Walter Tevis. In a world where it feels like film studios would rather just remake already popular stories, this is a refreshing breath of originality. It has heart, grit, and inspiration in spades and even made some grown men cry and I haven’t even mentioned the interiors or fashions. Order a chess set the minute you start watching because I guarantee you will be obsessed with the game in addition to this series.
