Ornamental Minimalism
by habituallychic
03 . 23 . 20Interior designer and architect Joseph Dirand needed a larger apartment for his expanding family and the result is what he describes as “ornamental minimalism.” His style is clean and almost always uses a large amount of marble but always feels warm and inviting. That’s exactly how I felt when I stayed at the Four Seasons Surf Club in Miami that he designed. I declared it the absolute best hotel in the United States and I still stand by that declaration. I actually saw Dirand and his wife at the opening VIP day at Art Basel in December 2018 and I wanted to tell him how much I admire his work but I didn’t want to interrupt him. These uncertain days make me want to make sure in the future that I don’t hesitate to tell someone how much they mean to me.His new home that is featured in Architectural Digest is filled with even more marble and makes me wonder if they had to reinforce the floor joists so it didn’t all crash into the apartment below. Every home I see now makes me wonder how they are passing their time in quarantine. I bet having a view of the Eiffel Tower makes it a bit more enjoyable that most.
