Caroline Gidiere’s Magnificent Mountain Brook Home

02 . 21 . 20Caroline Gidiere‘s Mountain Brook, Alabama home should be designated with landmark status as it is one of the most photographed houses in the area. I took my own photo of the Georgian style home in October 2016 while touring the neighborhood with my Birmingham based interior designer friend Andrew Brown. When it proved impossible to renovate the original house on the property Gidiere collaborated on a new design with architect James F. Carter with inspiration from 18th-century George Wythe house in Colonial Williamsburg. I visited Colonial Williamsburg for the first time last summer and I can attest that it’s full of brilliant ideas and should be visited by all designers and architects. The interiors were inspired by a varied mix of designers including Daniel Romualdez, Frances Elkins, Renzo Mongiardino, Miles Redd, and David Netto. The result looks like it has stood for much longer than 10 years and I can’t wait to take another photo the next time I am in Alabama.
