Mario Buatta Auction at Sotheby’s

01 . 13 . 20I was first seated next to interior designer Mario Buatta at an event over ten years ago. He couldn’t have been more excited to have a fresh person to surprise with his fake cockroach prank. Decorating should be fun and it was refreshing that he didn’t take it all so seriously even though he worked for some of the most illustrious clients in the country. His death last year was a huge loss for the design world but soon his legacy will live on with the antiques, artwork, and decorative objects that he collected for his lifetime with the sale Mario Buatta: Prince of Interiors at Sotheby’s this month. Many of the over 1,000 pieces up for auction look inspired by his years working for other renown designers and his long time friendship with John Fowler which also influenced his American take on English Country House style. The viewing begins on Thursday, January 16th and I can’t wait to see everything in person to figure out what I want to bid on for myself.
