Christmas with Suzanne Rheinstein

I don’t know anyone who decorates chicer for Christmas than Suzanne Rheinstein. The Los Angeles based interior designer incorporates many Southern traditions in her decorations based on her childhood upbringing in New Orleans. They include citrus fruits, gilded magnolia leaves, and pomanders among other things. I posted some of these photos from One Kings Lane a few years ago but it was exciting to see Suzanne’s house decorated for Christmas again in Veranda magazine this month. You can see subtle changes in the decorations and the decor in these photos. Veranda is one of the only magazines that features homes decorated for Christmas and I’m very worried that the recent change in editorial staff will see an end to these special seasonal stories. One Kings Lane has already significantly cut down on their home tours. My Christmas wish is for both of them to return.
Update: I just booked a trip to New Orleans for the week before Christmas. I’ve never been before so if you have any suggestions on where to go and what to do, please let me know. I’m especially interested in antique shops and historic houses. If you know any reasonably priced antiques shops and pretty streets, even better. I’m going to try to stay at the Hotel Peter and Paul but if you have any other recommendations, please let me know. Merci beaucoup!
