Chalk It Up to Napoleon

It felt like a full circle moment when I visited Garrow Kedigian‘s 5th floor at the 2016 Kips Bay Decorator Show House last week. The first time we met was at the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in 2009 where he had a tiny room on the 5th floor that was only 95 square feet. It’s fun to look back at that room because Garrow’s style hasn’t veered too far in the last five years, as both rooms share Greek key accents and wall details. In Napoleon’s Lounge this year, Garrow enlisted Rajiv Surendra to create chalk drawn wall moldings, columns, and ceiling medallion. It took Rajiv 10 days to complete the space and it could be gone in moment if wiped away. A nod to the fleetingness of the show house which only runs for a short amont of time. The room also pays homage to Napoleon who would create temporary French Empire style rooms while away on military campaigns. Make sure you visit the 2016 Kips Bay Decorator Show Housee before it disappears on June 9, 2016.
