Remembering Oscar

10 . 21 . 14Every single person who commented on the passing of Oscar de la Renta described him as a true gentleman. Perhaps this was due to his early training from Cristóbal Balenciaga and at Lanvin in Paris or his years heading Balmain. He was one of the last greats from a different time but he never forgot where he came from which was the Dominican Republic. He founded the Casa del Niño orphanage in La Romana and contributed extensively in the construction of a much needed school near his home in Punta Cana.
While he will be most remembered for this fashion designs, I think the interior design community will most remember him for his beautiful homes. I couldn’t think of a better tribute than to share images of his house in the Dominican Republic again.
But maybe an even better tribute would be for all of us to emulate his gracious and giving nature to make up for the world being a little less elegant without him in it.
