Katherine Hepburn Slept Here
by habituallychic
07 . 02 . 14Seeing as the US is headed into the July 4th holiday this weekend, I thought it would be fitting to get back to some American themed posts. An email from Lonny recently alerted me to the fact that Katherine Hepburn’s former estate in Old Saybrook, Connecticut had come on the market again. The 15 room home has water views of the Long Island Sound on one side and a pond on the other. The previous owners completely gut renovated the home and changed the exterior which is a shame but that means that it’s move in ready. And for $14.8 Million, it can be yours. See the entire listing here.

It’s a shame the old kitchen floor tiles were removed, but the new porches do look fabulous. What a great spot to celebrate the 4th for so many reasons.
I’m not too far in New Haven! better go see the open house 🙂

It’s a shame they didn’t seem to know the difference between restoration and renovation. Of course, the location is prime and the renovation seems to be a quality job…..but, if the price is supposed to reference the fact that Katherine Hepburn lived there, they blew that!
For the most part it looks like they have stayed true to the spirit of Katherine’s house. Amazing property

I hate what happened to her house, it makes me feel sad when I see the photos. The complete removal of everything in the interior that made it charming has erased the character of Katherine’s beloved home, it now looks like a bland, over styled, monochrome show home. Shame.
Love seeing that picture of Katherine working in the old kitchen. So cozy and real.
What an amazing old house. Can you imagine growing up there, like Katherine Hepburn? No wonder she was a celebrated swimmer and athlete, the water is right there!
I prefer the old kitchen – it’s got character and you can imagine someone actually cooking in it.
All of the renovations look very bland.
