House of Gwyneth

I love websites like Curbed that keep us alerted as to where the celebrities are living. Usually it’s not anywhere chic but on Friday, they announced that Gwyenth Paltrow and hubby Chris Martin just purchased The House of Windsor.  The concept house in the Mandeville Canyon area of Los Angeles was designed by Windsor Smith and decorated by a few other talented designers for Veranda magazine.  You can actually watch 360 degree videos of the rooms here.  I know some of the decor has been removed since it was borrowed for the event but I hope Gwyneth keeps many of the other details.  Windsor Smith designed the gorgeous entry, family room, and kitchen that are pure perfection.   I wonder if Apple and Moses will be getting a pony to fill the stables but more importantly, I wonder where Gwennie is putting her famous workout room.

Dining room by Richard Hallberg.

Great room by Richard Shapiro.

Media room by Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

Study by Peter Dunham.

Bedroom by Tara Shaw.

Dressing room by Candace Barnes.

Master bath by Candace Barnes.

Guest bedroom by Peter Dunham.

Patio design by Stephen Block.

Landscape design by Paul Robbins.

Stable by Kathryn M. Ireland.

What a lovely home. I especially like the kitchen and the use of the corner cabinet. Who wouldn’t love to live here.

This is so far from my current life, yet I found myself nodding with appreciation and new-found desires, madly inconvenient! I could happily adjust to living there, minus the wallpaper. It feels like an English country house updated, I wonder if that was part of the attraction for anglophile GP.

This feels grand but still like a home…and timeless. Glad Gwyneth is getting a great kitchen!

It’s so gorgeous! It’s moder but with traditional touches to keep the space grounded and warm! I hope she keeps it the same!

A friend went on the tour when it was open, and thought that the floor plan was choppy and challenging…but for a high profile couple who probably won’t be spending much time there, it will do quite well!

Thanks for posting this. Just last week in Dallas, at the Veranda 25th anniversary celebration, Windsor Smith made mention of this concept house and shared a few photos. Nice to see more of it. Of course Habitually Chic would have it! Thanks for another great post!

Hi Heather, Most of the house is great design. However, I would change a couple of rooms that just don’t seem appropriate for the setting or the balance of the design. I also wonder what the horse thought of Kathryn’s lovely green pillow nestled in his water (?) bucket. I’m sure that this amazing kitchen will be put to good use. Thanks. Mary
    Any news on THE BOOK?

Thanks for the tip on the curbed website. I was thrilled to see I have the same desk as Gwyneth Paltrow. My mother purchased it in the 1960’s and the one I have still has the original walnut finish. It was made by Sligh Lowry of Holland Michigan. Michigan made furniture was considered very good, and I believe there is still quite a bit of it in the White House.
