02 . 10 . 12I’ve recently had a lot of pinch me moments and quite a few occurred this past Wednesday. I started out the day by meeting uber talented interior designer Stephen Sills at The Apthorp on the Upper West Side for a personal preview of a special exhibition he curated with pieces from the upcoming 20th and 21st-century design auction at Rago Arts in Lambertsville, NJ. I have to admit that Arts & Crafts is my least favorite style of furniture and the fact that he actually made it look chic in is definitely a testament to his skill as a designer. In addition, there is an Hervé Van der Straeten mirror above the fireplace and few paintings by Damien Hirst mixed in for good measure. Stephen Sills also had a hand in helping the developer renovate the building and was instrumental in keeping all the lovely old details like the mother of pearl push buttons. I toured two of the model apartments he designed and will be posting them soon. Viewings for this apartment are this Saturday and Sunday and the auction of the items is February 25th and 26th. Bonne chance!

You are so right dahhling…he did make arts & crafts furniture look very chic (also my least favorite style)…never mind I love that building!
The curved hallway seems spectacular, the colors of the carpet very consistent with the tone of the superb walls and wood on the floor
Stunning works of art! Adore the mirror by Van der Straeten.

Tell us about the “spin art” butterflies, skull, heart… and the other art…
Many thanks for informing us about this auction and posting vignettes with works by Hirst, Warhol, Baechler and Lichtenstein, among others. I think works of art in such contexts can become as interesting as those in a gallery or museum. I just marked the auction dates on my calendar. Enjoy fashion week Heather!
I would love to have the winning bid on anything pictured here. Except for that apple pillow. . . no room for my tush.
Cheers!
The Nakashima bench and that amazing Arts & Crafts library table would make any space sing. To have the pick of these amazing pieces of art would be like stepping into heaven. What a day! Mary
I love the top photo in the blog, stunning light feature in the middle of the room, and the branches on the wall are a fantastic idea, thanks for sharing 🙂 – Cathy Pieroz at Ray White Alexandra Hills
