Chic in NY: The Upper Rust
by habituallychic
07 . 19 . 11The thing I miss out on because I live in New York are small antique shops with reasonably priced treasures waiting to be unearthed. That’s why I was so excited to find The Upper Rust. It’s the kind of store I would expect to find upstate or out east. Filled with transferware, china, frames, mirrors, objects, oddities, and more, makes it definitely worth a visit. Just make sure you get there before the team from a certain chic retailer buys up all the good stuff!

I will have to check this out next time I’m in that neighborhood! Totally reminds me of the goodies I have unearthed at The Elephants Trunk!
Wow… There are so many amazing pieces at this shop. It’s almost overwhelming just looking at the pictures. I will have to stop in!
Love this unique shop. I adore that great mirror and the huge clock!

Lots of antique accessories these look great, have to check this store out when I come to New York again! Thanks for sharing this.
I MUST stop into this shop. WOW. Like candy!
Could spend a happy morning in there.
Thank you for letting us know. Love the shop, So “Vintage” Beautiful.
Helllo!
I am confused. i thought you lived in NYC. where is your new apt?
Nina
I blame it on the landlords raising the rents. There used to be a lot of similar shops in the West Village, along Hudson and the adjacent streets.
So charming! I’m stopping here next month when I’m back in NYC-thanks for sharing!!
Amazing inventory. I’ll take the zinc architectural mirror, the cabinet that’s hiding in the back room and all of the blue mason jars to start. Thanks. Mary
i walk by there usually on the weekends. my partner and i usually try to predict the prices of the shabby (not chic) items in the front- such as a small stool, soda carrier, etc. we are usually way off the mark! this place has some cute stuff but the prices are definitely new york priced. like the flea markets that charge you twenty dollars for yesterday’s newspaper because it is now an “antique”, ha!
Had a ball shopping here this a.m. with you…thanks I just love these flea market type stores..
i am confused as well. where do you live? not ny?
Nina and Anonymous – Apparently you were confused by my wording. I do still live in New York and because I live here, I miss out on small antique shops since we don’t have hat many here. Which is why I was excited to find The Upper Rust. I have not moved out of New York nor do I have any plan to.
Don’t you just love these little shops. I could spend all day in this one.
AMAZING!!! Can’t wait to stop by this sunday 🙂 Thank you for sharing such a great find.
This was such a great post and reminded me about the store (which I hadn’t visited in years)! Went by and got a few great thing which I wove into my own post!! Thanks!
