Chic in NY: The Upper Rust

The thing I miss out on because I live in New York are small antique shops with reasonably priced treasures waiting to be unearthed.  That’s why I was so excited to find The Upper Rust.  It’s the kind of store I would expect to find upstate or out east.  Filled with transferware, china, frames, mirrors, objects, oddities, and more, makes it definitely worth a visit.  Just make sure you get there before the team from a certain chic retailer buys up all the good stuff!

I will have to check this out next time I’m in that neighborhood! Totally reminds me of the goodies I have unearthed at The Elephants Trunk!

I blame it on the landlords raising the rents. There used to be a lot of similar shops in the West Village, along Hudson and the adjacent streets.

Amazing inventory. I’ll take the zinc architectural mirror, the cabinet that’s hiding in the back room and all of the blue mason jars to start. Thanks. Mary

i walk by there usually on the weekends. my partner and i usually try to predict the prices of the shabby (not chic) items in the front- such as a small stool, soda carrier, etc. we are usually way off the mark! this place has some cute stuff but the prices are definitely new york priced. like the flea markets that charge you twenty dollars for yesterday’s newspaper because it is now an “antique”, ha!

Had a ball shopping here this a.m. with you…thanks I just love these flea market type stores..

Nina and Anonymous – Apparently you were confused by my wording. I do still live in New York and because I live here, I miss out on small antique shops since we don’t have hat many here. Which is why I was excited to find The Upper Rust. I have not moved out of New York nor do I have any plan to.
