Honoring Arthur Elgort
by habituallychic
06 . 07 . 11Arthur Elgort was honored with the Council of Fashion Designers of America Board of Directors Award for his photography Monday night. Grace Coddington presented him the award so you know it was special. Arthur Elgort has been shooting since the 1970’s and his photos are always gorgeous and often amusing. Some of my favorites include those he took of Keira Knightley in Kenya for Vogue in 2007. The photos are reminiscent of Out of Africa but completely original and romantic in their own right. They also illustrate why he is so deserving of his award. Congratulations to Mr. Elgort and here’s to many more years of fantastic photographs!

Oh Kiera, SO FIERCE.
I used to model, and Arthur Elgort was THE photographer that all models wanted to work with. I went to castings with him praying for him to snatch me up as his next muse (alas, no). He liked girls who had been ballerinas, who were elegant, graceful, modest and poetic. His pictures were all of these things. And, as I have come to realize of many people at the TOP of their craft, he was a nice, kind person. He let us down gently.
Such a talented photographer! I have always loved the elephant images for LV!

The photograph of Keira Knightly in the big, billowing green is spectacular!
He did a similarly wonderful shoot with Christy Turlington (and no doubt, Ms. Coddington) in the early 1990s, which I loved. I still have the tear-sheets.
He is one talented photographer. I want to be just like him when I grow up.
I remember this spread! I was living in my old apt off 3rd and Orlando in West Hollywood and making pancakes on a daily basis. I remember thinking she was classically beautiful in those shots. Like a Lauren Hutton
