Blue and White Underfoot
by habituallychic
05 . 23 . 11While sourcing rugs for a project, I kept coming back to blue and white stripes and similar patterns. There is something about them that is relaxed and casual yet crisp and sophisticated as in the Victorian Hagan room above. Of course, they look perfect in beach houses which is maybe why they keep catching my eye at this time of year but they also look great in city apartments. Now I’m even thinking that I might need one but you really can’t go wrong with anything blue and white. Enjoy!
UPDATE: My friend Eleanor just told me that Aspen Carpet Designs is a great source for flat weave Dhurry rugs similar to the one in Something’s Gotta Give for a great price! Definitely check them out!

I have been in love with blue and blue ever since Mario Buatta’s famous blue and white bedroom was first published over 20 years ago. It just never goes out of style. And Victoria Hagan’s blue and white is always perfect. Thanks, Mary
Blue and white never gets boring. I do prefer uneven stripes over stripes of similar width. I believe the “unknown” photo has mostly Oka Direct (British company) furniture in it. The rug is also theirs, I think. Thanks for your lovely posts, amazing how you have the time to keep doing them. Impressive and inspiring.
Best wishes from (drought-ridden) France.

When in doubt, go blue! I learned from a pro years ago that men prefer blue and if you are selling or downing a showcase, blue will always win them over. If the man is won over, the woman usually gets what she wants. It has worked for me.
perfect! especially in rooms with tons of natural light. the built-ins in the first room are wonderful, too!
A classic color combination. So perfect for the warmer weather! Love the cocktail table in the David Lawrence picture and the Thomas Smythe room is fantastic!
Hi Heather,
Your choices for this blog are stunning. I’ve been a Victoria Hagan fan for quite some time. You can’t go wrong with the blue and white – so classic and timeless. I continue to come back to your first picture (Elle Decor cover) time and time again. Thank you!!
Great post..well they always are, I so enjoy my morning dose of HC thanks for all your inspiration!
Love your blog 0 it is very inspirational. I am decorating my sun porch and looking for a blue and white striped outdoor run (6 x 9). Any suggestions? I looked at Dash and Albert but I would like the stripes to go the other way!
Thank-you (and Eleanor) for the mention of our Blue & White stripe Beach House cotton rugs. We’re a small family business at Aspen Carpet Designs and the striped rugs continue to grow in popularity.
Customers have asked for different colors and we added a Black & White stripe and have been working to get a good beige/taupe and white for 2012.
The January 2012 “Southern Living” magazine featured our rug in an article about bedroom makeovers. We’ll have those pictures on our website soon. All the magazine and newspaper articles for the rug results in sold out inventory!
Thanks again for the mention and very nice blog!
