Chic in Chambray
04 . 15 . 11
Technically, this post should be titled Chic in Chambray and Denim Shirts but that didn’t have the same ring just Chic in Chambray. I used to wear chambray and denim shirts in college until they were practically falling apart but tossed them aside after I moved to New York. As these photos suggest, chambray, denim and Western shirts are classics that never really go out of style but they are definitely seeing a resurgance lately. I even went out and bought myself a new one. I look forward to wearing it with dark jeans and to tone down the sweetness of my floral skirts. Just wish I looked as good in it as Jenna Lyons! Bon Weekend!

I can’t get enough of the Chanel bag in the first photo!
I’m loving the resurgence of the chambray shirt, it embodies preppy cool especially the way it’s been reinterpreted wearing them with other unexpected pieces!
def a fan – have a bunch of tops!
you have truly inspired me to break out my chambray again!
Great post. Such a casual and comfy style. I love this look. The vintage Steve McQueen, Paul Newman, and Robert Redford pics are classic! Thanks for the memories.

Heather…my favorite new spring article of clothing….
the Belmarin chambray pant from JCrew! Comfy, practical, chic…a great alternative to jeans in warmer weather!
I’ve got the denim vibe too at the moment. I recently found a chambray shirt and denim vest which I used to wear during my university days (around 17 years ago), in an old suitcase. I’m now wearing one of them every day. Viva denim!
Yes, yes, yes. A classic style element.
the Steve McQueen pictures are so incredible. He was such a gorgeous man. I also love the one of Ralph Lauren, he is a modern day Steve McQueen, no?
Love Drew Barrymore’s look!
Great post Heather! Have a wonderful weekend.
i love the chambray shirt, and am loving this post. i actually am not totally in love with the denim on denim look (too texan tuxedo), i love to wear my chambray shirt with a maxi skirt in pleated white chiffon (love the dressed up/dressed down mix), and i absolutely love love love the chloe image of the denim with the camel that you posted. xo
I don’t think that Paul Newman and Steve McQueen could look bad in anything. Mary
you have inspired me…
love, love, love! i bought a denim shirt in the fall and haven’t worn it! after seeing the pics, i’m pulling it out today!
My college roommate teased about my “fleet” of denim shirts and jackets in the 80’s and 90’s. Good thing I still have several of them that have remained classics. I’m having a hard time wearing the denim with denim look though. Just doesn’t feel right to me!
love chambray and so glad it’s making a comeback…it’s truly a timeless look.
Where would you suggest I look for a nice thick denim shirt. I have a chambray one now, but I want a heavier cotton.
