Trench Warfare
by habituallychic
03 . 31 . 11Tomorrw is April 1st and you know what that means, April showers that will hopefully bring May flowers. It’s actually already raining in New York today so most likely everyone will be pulling out their trench coats. I still love my Gryphon trench but it’s looking a little old and my Burberry trench tends to make me look like Meryl Streep in Kramer vs. Kramer above. It seems like it might be time for a little shopping so I’m looking to these lovely ladies for inspiration. Find of funny that the five year is chicest one! Enjoy!

One can never have too many trenches…. I love the one with the first label of Unknown. Looks fab with the wide-leg jeans. (PS: have you checked out +J at Uniqlo? So many subtle colour ranges for trenches – different styles, too.)
The Celine Trench and Olivia Palermo’s are soo cute! Any idea who Palermo’s is by?

Other than jeans, is there any other clothing item for women, or men, that you can get more mileage out of than a great trench coat?
Love trench coats..have one in black, tan and white..they are always so chic looking with just about anything. I have been known to bring my kids in my pjs with my trench over it…its multi purpose…haha.
so chic on women -and yet I hate them on men -always make me think of old perverts (sorry!). Also -notice very few have the belts tied -i never know what to do with the belt!
First unknown is Ludivine Poiblanc! x
I love my trench, but its also looking a little worse for wear this spring. Thanks for the inspiration to get out there and start looking for my next best!
Lots of great trenches! Super post – thanks.
I’m currently looking for the perfect trench. Still debating on whether to go with a classic khaki or a fun color. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love Ellen Barkin in the trench and gown! Great juxtaposition.
Love. Even Meryl’s in Kramer Vs. Kramer. In fact, when I saw that movie as a kid (don’t ask), I was obsessed with that particular look. Totally got me over my “Bad Sandy” look from Grease.
Happy Weekend!
As a relative new reader, Heather, I must confess that this post has converted me into a new follower and this my first comment 😉 It’s refreshing to see all the iterations of Thomas Burberry’s classic trench through the years. I still think Burberry (and perhaps Gryphon and Celine) make the loveliest trenches in the land. I absolutely adore that you ended this post with that classic scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s – thats what I always think of when I think of the trench (ps did you see the Blair Waldorf take on it? 😉 Audrey made the Burberry trench so chic and iconic and I remember going out and getting mine then and there – I have had it for years now – talk about investment dressing. Thanks for cheering us up a little in this New York City dreariness 😉
