Abstract Expressionism New York

06 . 10 . 10Since I’ve been posting about art, I figured this would be a good time to tell you about a very exciting exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art this fall. Abstract Expressionism New York will trace the development of the artist movement from it’s beginning in the 1940’s through to the 1960’s when it reached its zenith. The exhibition will be compiled from the museum’s holding and will include over 300 works by such illustrious artists as Jackson Pollack, his wife Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning (above), Mark Rothko, Arshile Gorky, Robert Motherwell, and Joan Mitchell. I know Abstract Expressionism doesn’t appeal to everyone but it is one of my absolute favorite art movements. Since most of the works aren’t representational, each person who views them can see something different or just appreciate them for their expansive use of color. Abstract Expressionism New York will be on view October 3, 2010 through April 25, 2011. See you there!

Thanks for the heads up! Will definitely take this in on my winter excursion to NYC. Such a fascinating period in 20th century art, it deserves to be showcased. Thanks, Heather 🙂
Oh, I would love to check this out, I have been a huge fan of de Kooning since studying art years ago. The colors and paint quality are simply amazing! Janell
Oh I would be thrilled to see this exhibit. Abstract Expressionism is my favorite art movement.
Oooh la la…any excuse to visit NYC! I am sending my hubbs a link to this post!
I hope to make it to this one! My favorite is Hans Hofmann, I think.
Hopefully will get to NYC to see this exhibit. Joan Mitchell is one of my favorite artists. On the same note there is an Arshile Gorky exhibit at MOCA in LA from June 6-Sept 20th.
Abstract Expressionism is among my favorite art movements, too! Joan Mitchell, Helen Frankenthaler, Manhattan here I come!
PS. John Berggruen Gallery in San Francisco has a fantastic Frankenthaler exhibit that runs until 26 June! Check it out on their website at http://www.berggruen.com or on my blog http://www.innerspaceinteriordesign.blogspot.com!
