Sex and the City 2: The Interior Design Review

Even though the film won’t be released until May 28th, the Sex and the City 2 hoopla has already begun. While the fashions will probably steal all the scenes, I am interested in the sets, specifically Carrie and Big’s apartment. While there are some views in the trailer, I was able to find a few more photos online that give us a look at the living room. Not sure where the upholstered pieces are from but that floral pillow is the Paul Smith Birdie Blossom cushion from The Rug Company.
In this better shot of the living room, we get a good look at the coffee table. I’ve never seen anyone display books standing up on a coffee which is interesting. If you can zoom in, the books themselves are interesting too. They include Walton Ford; Lewis Carroll; Tracey Chevelier; Sol Levitt,
100 Views;
The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco;
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger;
Poe & Fanny by John May;
Voices of Time: A Life in Stories by Eduardo Galeano;
All Yesterday’s Parties: The Velvet Underground in Print 1966-71; and last but not least,
Lady Chatterley’s Lover by D.H. Lawrence. Quite an interesting assortment of reading material and those were only the titles I could make out!
In this photo of Big reading the paper on the sofa, you can glimpse the foyer wallpaper in the background. Anyone know the artist of the gold painting?
This is a slightly better view of the foyer wallpaper which I could not identify so lucky for me one of my readers, Jenny of
Fancy Pants Design, recognized it as Oiseau in Chocolate by
Katie Ridder available through
Holland & Sherry in New York. That is very exciting for Katie! I love the black doors too!
I apologize to Sarah Jessica Parker for posting a photo of her with her eyes closed but I wanted to show the draperies. On first glance, it looked exactly like the Zoffany fabric that my friends Mercedes and Alberto of
Etos used for their Lenox Hill Neighborhood House Gala table but on closer inspection, it looks like a lace overlay on another fabric. Or that could just be a weird shadow. Not exactly sure. The hyacinths and roses hint that the scene was set in spring too! So pretty!
This shot of the dining room table and kitchen is interesting too. The fabric on the dining chairs is
Belgravia from
Lee Jofa which is exactly the same as the pattern of the
Belgravia wallpaper from
Cole & Son available through
Lee Jofa. The tile in the kitchen is interesting too. It doesn’t really look like something Carrie would pick out but perhaps her decorator suggested it!
In this view of the bedroom, you can see that they are using the
Hallings Secretary as a television stand while in the previous view of it, it was set up as a desk. You can also peek into what I am sure will be the scene stealer in the film, Carrie’s closet!
It appears that the left side must be for Mr. Big since it’s a darker wood while Carrie’s side is all white and illuminated. Now let’s just keep our fingers crossed that the film is as interesting as the interiors!

Stunning! I’m not a Sex and the City fan, but I am so glad you did this post! I’m going to link to it tomorrow!
Where oh where did you get these pictures?!?! I love that there is so much footage of them in their place. I liked Big’s place a lot in the first film. This is so exciting! Loving the his and hers closet.

Hi Heather,
The fabric on the bed is Kravet/ Velvet Gate Colour: Horizon. It is a linen with a velvet applique.
Love your blog. I have been a fan for a few years now but never left a comment. Thank you for all the inspiration!!

So beautiful! I can’t wait for the movie next month, I was going to do a post soon looking back at the interiors from Part 1!!
GREAT Story!!!
I watch Sex and the City movie over and over just to drool over the sets and clothes! This is going to be a good one. That upholstery maybe is A. Rudin? Not sure, but maybe.
Hope you are well and have a great week.

Oh does anyone know the provenance of the chair that Carrie is sitting in, in pic one?
Ms. HC,
While I was rubbernecking all the details of your fantastic post I couldn’t help but cool off from
“The Bigs” at home.
Have a great NYC day,
BarG
Another fabulous post, full of great info. As you know, I love set design, and make myself cross-eyed (and my husband nuts) by rewinding and pausing so I can scrutinize sets on TV shows and movies. And I would have also tried to read the book titles! Thanks for saving me (and him) on this one. If as Paula says, that headboard fabric is velvet appliqued on linen, I gotta go find me some!
Also those flats are gorgeous. I can’t wear heels (unlike SJP who somehow manages to run all over NYC in 4″ Louboutins), so thanks for this, too.

great post ! thank you for such great detective work! I keep going over and over each image.. please share if you find more!
Thanks for the preview, loved it ! I used the headboard fabric to cover a memo board in my craft closet.
Heather, Thank you for digging up all of these images. The set is gorgeous. And the detailed account of what is exactly in each image – thank. I’m going to have to retweet this to my readers.
God!!!! I need to see immediatly this film!!!
The pattern on the dining chairs is Lee Jofa’s Belgravia. I’m using the orange/pink/magenta color way for a nursery. It’s a really beautiful fabric.
Great post!

The fabric on the dining chairs is by Lee Jofa 2008157 Color 118 (Belgravia Grey/Black).
I’m laughing as I’m typing, we’re all a little crazy in that we can spot a fabric or piece of furniture and immediately identify it :-)!!
Thanks for a great post, I’ve been in such a mood for a movie with great interior design eye candy.
Have a fantastic week!!
I especially love the painting in the living room, wonderful golds. So warm and inviting. Thanks for the pictures!

Well, I’m mad that I didn’t get here first to identify the Lee Jofa fabric, but I bow down to those with swifter fingers than me. I had read that Kravet/Lee Jofa were doing the fabrics for the movie. I don’t know if there are other companies represented or not, but I can’t wait to see the movie!

Am I the only one that’s sad to see they changed the closet?
Thanks for posting Heather, I luv the fact that I can relate what I see to who is the maker and from where it is produced. Another level, layer of knowing design.
Love the apartment in the pics…..
looks like a BIG success!

This is wonderful. I’m always so interested in SATC set design and interiors, of course especially Carrie’s environment.
love this post! thanks for sharing all the amazing finds
Fabulous set design to go with fabulous wardrobes! Excited for the movie.
Can’t wait for this! The dressing room is to die for!
I work at Silvercup Studios, where the movie had their offices, one day the elevator opened on the wrong floor and I saw the film’s interior design office. I only saw it for a minute, but they had tons of fabrics and wallpaper samples hanging on the walls in different story boards. One I saw was children’s wallpaper (wonder if its for Charlotte’s new baby’s room). It was really cool, wish I could have worked in that department or on the film. Just have to see it like everyone else. 🙂
I think those tiles are Ann Sacks.
Oh I can’t wait til May! I’ve been dying for a secretary! Looks like Carrie beat me to it.
I absolutely love that headboard fabric! Just the right hint of modernity in a thoroughly traditional-style pattern. Can’t wait to use that somewhere!
Looks amazing!x
Kitchen tile is from Ann Sacks… although it might be discontinued now, can’t seem to find it on the website….. hmm…
AAAAH the CLOSET….that is my fave!!

I love this show the movie every single thing about it. There is so much glamour and real life daily events it keeps me wanting more. A great creative job by all.
A wonderful post. This one must have taken you more than a few hours to put together! Can’t wait to see the movie and more photos of the set! Thank you for all of the sources.
Your enthusiasm for this film makes me smile and your analysis was great.
I know the kitchen tiles. They’re by Heath Ceramics, a mid-century pottery located in Saulsalito, California.
Did you notice the ottoman Carrie sitting on in the LV Room resembles the blue tiles. Ovals that are “pinched” in the center. I acctually like it, the tile too.
Thanks for showing.
I canot wait to see the move and ALL the FAB clothing and interior design!!! Merci for sneak preview!
Aaaah I had a post just like this planned – awesome! The two things that really got me started were that secretary and the headboard – Just gorgeous! thanks for sharing all these sources!
Thanks for sharing. I love it. Although, I think I liked Big’s place in the last move better. And I can almost guarantee that the tile in the kitchen is Heath Ceramics.
I think the tile in the kitchen is Heath Ceramics.
Does anyone know the maker of the blue and white tea cup Charlotte is drinking from at the end of the film (I think she was in Carrie’s old apt.)
Great post. I was searching for the amazing headboard fabric – thank you!
Does anyone know where the white and black dresser in Carrie and Big’s bedroom comes from?
I just saw the movie, came home and got online to research that coffee table… Do you know where that’s from/who makes them?
Would love to know about that blue ottoman Carrie is sitting on… Help anyone?
“Lola Ottoman” by designer Anne Kyyro Quinn
That awesome coffee table is “Ninfea” by Poltrona Frau!

Thanks for the coffee table info, Chris!!
I saw the film at the weekend, it was fab, the fashion was on top form but Big and Carrie’s Apartment was amazing. The wallpaper was stunning. Did anyone notice the Lightswitches? I’ve read they are from Forbes and Lomax, Invisible and amazing!
Fab post! I like Bryan would love to know where the blue chintz tea cup and saucer is from – help please!
The books on the coffee table sort of remind me of Central Park..the way they’re lined up vertically and there’s the bit of greenery in the middle. Wonder if that was intentional..
I have the same bed and would love to buy the Velvet Gate Tuxedo upholsterey by Kravet. Does anyone know how someone can buy this if they are not in the design industry?
Thanks for the response Heather! I checked calico corners and they don’t have Kravet fabric on the website, unless I am missing something. I can try going to a designer. Do you have any idea how much this fabric runs in price? Love your Blog!
Kelly – the fabric at Calico Corners won’t say that it’s by Kravet because it’s sold under the Calico Corners label. Search for black and white fabrics and see if you can find it. If you need more help, you should probably contact Kravet directly.
A wonderfully detailed review! I would also love to know the source of the golden painting above the lounge. Anyone?
Heather – I love the story! The secretary is the Hallings Secretary by Thomas O’Brien and the desk chair is the Hunt Chair from the Suzanne Kasler Collection – both are made by Hickory Chair! Thanks for sharing.

I am searching to find the tv console in the livingroom any ideas?
