The September Issue Part Deux
by habituallychic
02 . 21 . 10If you saw The September Issue then you will remember this photo shoot that Grace Coddington worked on with Patrick Demarchelier for Vogue. You might also remember Anna Wintour’s comment about the photo above. Grace’s reaction was what made me, and I bet many others, fall in love with her. I hope there are more great Grace moments on the DVD when it’s released this Tuesday, February 23rd. It will include 90 minutes of unseen footage that I hear does include some classic Andre Leon Talley moments and if you order the DVD from Barnes & Noble, it also includes a third disk with exclusive coverage of the planning of The Met Costume Institute gala.
I have to admit that I didn’t love The September Issue as much as other fashion documentaries such as Valentino: The Last Emperor, Lagerfeld Confidential and anything by Loïc Prigent, but it’s still fun to peek into the fashion world’s inner sanctum. Just remember to never look Anna directly in the eye!

As soon as I saw that photo, I thought of The September Issue. It’s absolutely synonymous with that documentary.
I was curious when it would come out on DVD, thanks for the heads up. Since I do live in a rural area I knew they wouldn’t bring it to the big screen here. So I made a point of going to Portland to watch the film. One of the reasons I enjoyed the this film was to be able to see a little of what it was like to be Anna, to be in the fashion world and it did that fairly well.
Thanks Heather!
Heather, cool, very cool, great photographer for these shoots.

I will definitely be adding this to my collection. Thanks! Did you have time to enjoy any shows in NYC last week (in addition to Carolina Herrera)?
Wow, amazing photographer and the model has great style and form.
Definitely the September Issue classic! Love how they incorporated the doc. guy in the shoot 😀
i haven’t seen the september issue yet – i want to so bad!
I LOVED September Issue, but not so much for the fashion or eye candy…I mean do the editors at Vogue something that we don’t? Is makeup/skincare on its way out? Anyway. Cattiness aside. I did love it. Mostly because of Grace.
“Those poor goddamn Rodarthe!”

i Love grace… she made the whole movie… cannot wait to see more..
I know that Grace was the real shining star in this film, with that flame red mane and right on target comments. However, nobody will top the Queen Bee that is Anna Wintour. Say what you will about her but she dominates! And you can see why in the documentary, so much power in one little teeny person. I plan to purchase the dvd first thing tomorrow morning!
I hope the 3rd disc is available in Australia!
I can’t wait to get it next week.
Love your blog

“Just remember to never look Anna directly in the eye!” Ha!
I am still waiting for it. It didn’t come within 50 miles of DE to my knowledge. Guess I’ll have to buy it or send for it from NetFlix.
