Snow Day!

by habituallychic

12 . 19 . 09

The flakes have just begun to fall in New York but I’ve already assembled all my snow day supplies! Magazines, check. Books, check. Movies, check. Tea, check. Cookies, check. Candle, check. I am so looking forward to spending this day curled up on the sofa under my cashmere blanket watching movies and catching up on my reading. My only quandary is what movie to start with first! Any suggestions? What’s your favorite snow day movie?

I was lucky enough to get a few errands out of the way this morning, but DC is now completely unnavigable. These Southerners just can’t handle snow!
I would vote for the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice or The Thomas Crown Affair (the original). For the holidays, Love Actually never disappoints!

Your ring is beautiful. Who is it by? The Holiday is a favorite snow day movie of mine!

  3. Kim December 19, 2009 | 8:12 pm

The Holiday, definitely. And Cold Comfort Farm.

John and I are about to snuggle up and watch more Mad Men. It’s really borderline ridiculous how addicted I am. We’re in the middle of season two now and I’m dying to learn what happens next. Back to the topic at hand however, one of my favorite snow day movies is the 1994 version of Little Women with Winona Ryder and Chrisitan Bale. I was so in love with him as “Laurie.” I think I may have to beg John to watch it this weekend. Wish me luck—I’m going to need it : )
Have a merry, cozy day Heather!

    Heather,

Enjoy your day! Our holiday yukky weather movie choices are Gone With The Wind and The Holiday. Oh, Julie & Julia is out now on DVD. Hope it’s a good one.

I would have to go with Dr. Zhivago. I like to see lots of snow on the screen, if there are falling flakes outside.

Modern Traditionalist – The snow is usually cleaned up a minute after it hits the ground in NYC but it sounds like we might be getting more than first thought! I watched the BBC Pride and Predjudice last Sunday but I never tire of it so I supposed I could watch it again!

Starfish – It’s by Marcia Moran. I think she still sells them and it wasn’t that expensive!

Kim – The Holiday was on TBS earlier and I caught part of it. I do enjoy that movie but have never seen Cold Comfort Farm. Will have to look that one up! Thanks!

Kate – I don’t iwn the Mad Men DVD but I do have Gossip Girl which I might watch. I haven’t seen Little Women in years! That’s a great suggestion! Except that I was so mad at the sister for stealing Laurie! That was so wrong! Hope you enjoy your snow day!

Gwen – I LOVE Gone with the Wind but don’t own it on DVD. I think I will be placing an order today! Another great suggestion!

Thanks David! So glad you liked it!

Maureen – I’ve seen Doctor Zhivago many times and am still never sure I understand it!

Roman Holiday… Last year when it snowed I bought it on Apple TV and made cookies… now whenever it snows or rains so hard I cant go out I think of it as a Roman Holiday!

The Shining?…I know…but I liked snow-themed movies when it snows and horror/thriller movies..so this one combines the two! 🙂

I’m in Upstate NY, so our snow day already came and went. I watched Elf and it was so funny, I laughed the whole way through 🙂

I loved The Holiday, but by far and away my most favorite Christmas movie is White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.

We did this yesterday, since we folks down south in Delaware got our winter wonderland on Sat. Good luck! Lots of snow here. I would go with Pride and Predjudice, the Holiday or Anne of Green Gables! Love all three. Happy viewing.

Gone With The Wind is my movie of choice for idle time. Some days Scarlett will get wise and they will live happily ever after. That can happen, can’t it? Loved the Valentine sketch and will look for the documentary.
    Thanks.

Love your jewelry!!! As for snow day movies, there are a few ‘B’ movies that I’m embarrassed to admit I love – I’d probably watch those!

  27. hello gorgeous December 22, 2009 | 2:06 am

Dr. Zhivago was on this weekend! Also, you forgot liquor: A snowed-in necessity in Delaware. 🙂 I sort of loved being snowed in this weekend. Merry Christmas, Heather.

I recently saw on DVD again Stranger than Fiction. Given your photo included Cookies (Bikkies in Australia) it would be quite appropriate given Maggie Gyllenhaal cooked some great ones for Will Ferrell’s character. It is the only movie I can watch with him in it. But am now getting stuck into The West Wing – Season 1.
