Christopher Spitzmiller at Home
by habituallychic
01 . 11 . 09I know someone who is very good friends with Christopher Spitzmiller so we discussed setting up a profile and tour of his studio but New York Social Diary beat me to it so I figured I might as send you there to read it. It’s a great look inside his home and what it takes to create his exquisite and expensive lamps. I hope it also serves as inspiration for anyone who is thinking about starting their own business. Enjoy!

I absolutely love his style and those have got to be the most beautiful lamps ever. It’s easy to spot them in all the stylish homes and it’s not strange there have been so many attempts to knock them off. Thanks for the great photos and link on the feature, Heather! Have a great Sunday.
Heather- great post on him and his lamps. Thanks for keeping those of us who have left NYC still in the loop. Always great to find beautiful lamps made in the states.
Happy Sunday from San Francisco!
I am sorry that the NYSD got to him first.
Can I just add that his is SO ATTRACTIVE!
OH MY! Good morning!
I’ve been in love with C.S. for years! I was a young window dresser for Baker furniture in Pittsburgh when I first saw his lamps…
Thanks for the great post!
That was a fascinating article! Thanks for the link. I had no idea he is so young.
Does he live in NYC? The article refers to his New York place, but wasn’t sure if it is in the city. Based on the back garden, it looks like city. It is interesting how different city places are, architecturally. There are a whole different set of challenges to decorating a city place than a house in Atlanta.
His home is so lovely! I just adore his work.
Thanks for hte link…so that’s why the lamps are so expensive. Love them.
Annechovie – His lamps are so beautiful! Even with a designer discount, I’m not sure I could afford them but I keep dreaming!
Laura – I love hearing about how something is made!
Grant – Not as cute as you! But he is pretty adorable. Hope all is well in SF. It’s freezing here!
Scott – Did they sell them at Baker? Just curious.
Things that Inspire – I think he lives in the West Village but I’m not positive. I will have to ask my friend tomorrow. I know he has a farm in Millbrook that is supposed to be fabulous! Expensive lamps buy a lot of real estate.
Paloma – I love the bedroom!
Michelle – I think people are used to made in China prices but anything made in America is expensive. Although, Christopher’s lamps are worth it. The colors are divine!
Of course his home is as stylish as his lamps. I love the orange living room (and seeing the same tilework in his bathroom as in my old rental gives me a strange sense of security!)
i was just reading about his place last night on the NYSD
i was loving his colors, and i keep playing with the idea of a room just for me in orange.
was it fun ?
xxx
Stefan/Architect Design – I think every apartment in NYC has the same tile. Luckily, they stopped using the pink tile that used to be popular!
If you decide to go orange, a dirty orange is easier to live with and not so bright. Let me know if you go for it!
Renee – I haven’t set it up yet but I would still love to see how the studio works. I’m a sucker for anything behind the scenes. I also really want to see the farm in Millbrook. I’ve hear very good things and that he has chickens! How fun and very Martha!
heavenly oasis – sweet spot.
love his lamps, and oh, I gasped when I saw the bedroom! beautiful.
loveee them alll
What an elegant home! Love the yellow living room. I just had a client select that same shade of yellow for her dining room.
