Out of Australia

The Thanksgiving holiday brings not only turkey and football but blockbuster movies. The one I am most excited to see is Australia staring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman and directed by Baz Luhrmann. It looks a bit like Out of Africa but who cares. If you ask me, there aren’t enough movies about aristocratic European ladies who travel with too many fancy suitcases to dusty foreign countries where they ride horses and drive cattle and fall in love with hunky men. Australia arrives in theatres November 26th. Happy Holidays!

    Hello!
This movie is getting huge publicity here in Australia. Definitely one to see on the big screen I think – all those huge vistas. Its already been released here, and is getting good reviews, but not rave reviews.
    Hope you enjoy it!

Oh my… these images alone make me want to see it! Ahhh-mazing.

These movies are best watched with the sound turned off, because the ludicrous and/or overly sentimental plots make them horrid and distract from the real interest- in the backgrounds, the clothes, the buildings…

Catherine – thanks for the heads up. I love any movie that looks good even if it’s not an Oscar winner so I’m sure I’ll love it.

Leslie – some people like sentimentality. To each his own.

Tina – I’m debating going to see it opening night but not sure if I have the ambition. Definitely hope to see it over the weekend. Let me know what you think.

It does indeed look a lot like Out of Africa which is part of why I want to see it, other reasons being an obsession with Australia since second grade and an undying love for both Nicole and Baz.

I sincerely hope this film has the same kind of impact Out of Africa did on both fashion and design. For one brief shining moment in the mid-eighties, the world was just a little more elegant thanks to inspiration from Josie MacAvin (set decoration) and Milena Canonero (costume design).

I am looking forward to this too, despite Miss Kidman’s distractingly marble forehead (which I swear has been raised slightly in addition to Botoxed).

Oh, I couldn’t wait to see it from the previews and the lovely photos make me even more excited! I especially love that last photo–so incredibly romantic.
