How Come I Didn’t Know About This?!

I went out in the rain today to pick up the new Vogue and look for Domino, which I knew wouldn’t be there but that didn’t stop my from looking anyway. (Note to self…wear shorter jeans the next time it rains.) What I did find though was the new Spring/Summer issue of Vogue Living. It was a pleasant surprise although it’s so thin that it looks like something that should have been mailed to subscribers along with regular Vogue. Word on the street is that Anna Wintour isn’t happy with the magazine and I don’t blame her. It’s a disappointing mess of more postage stamp size photos and boring spreads that continue to not live up to the precedence set by the spectacular premier issue. Come on Vogue! You have access to the best of the best! Get it together!

i thought that vogue living got the ax around the time hg did? or am i confusing it with instyle home?

Anonymous, Ha! It looked like a freebie for subscribers.

Maison21, Vogue Living has not been axed yet but it looks like it could be next. InStyle Home and Blueprint were closed after H&G. There is practically nothing left!

I totally agree. I don’t think Vogue has lived up to its name for years. And I am so upset that all the home magazines are folding, especially Blueprint and H&G. What is our home design world coming to?

Anonymous, good thing there are blogs or we’d have nothing to read about design!

The sad thing about Vogue Living is that I could put something together better than that crap. But because I’m not 5’10” and a size 0, I will never be able to work at Vogue. When are they going to realize that skinny hungry girls don’t always have what it takes to put together a good magazine. Grrrrrr!

Glad you told me, I’ll have to pick up a copy when I go get my House Beautiful and Elle Decor this afternoon (I have a long day planned of doing nothing but drink tea and read new magazines tomorrow). Can’t understand why the US Vogue Living is not good, like you said they have access to the best of the best…and you would think now would be the best time to launch something more regularly with the disappearance of other shelter mags. Wishful thinking I guess.

And Why the heck did HG fold? Gwyneth Paltrow and Chloe S’s pad spreads were so great. I still miss that magazine terribly. Right now I’m only liking Domino (when it’s not ALL GREEN)and House Beautiful…sometimes Southern Accents.

Vogue Living DOES have access to the best but it is merely a strict reflection of Anna’s taste. Which is chic but rather limited.

The Rachel Weisz piece was painful. They had a decorator and a fashion designer put together a room of things she might like!?!? pathetic. Which is what HG basically did with the Gwyneth story—put it together for her(and not particularly well either). I admit I as interested in celebrity homes as the next girl but it’s much more fun when they actually had a hand in it!

Suzy, You’ll have to tell me what you think. I was very disappointed.

Sara, I guess H&G wasn’t making any money so the publisher decided to pull the plug. So sad. I miss their amazing photography.

Anonymous, The Rachel Weisz piece was very painful! Way too much stuff going on in that room. It didn’t seem to suit her personality either. It didn’t seem like a room for a woman who wears Narsico Rodriguez clothes. Oh well.

Anonymous #2, Habitually Chic loves to wear jeans! But only with Christian Louboutin gold flats and cute little tops 😉 And only until it gets really warm when she switches to nothing but dresses!

I have to say, the “L’Afrique, C’est” Chic spread made me smile. Always amusing when the modern western canon suspends self-congratulation for a moment to acknowledge the contributions of others.

The story on Duro Olowu was cool, too (if a bit short on substance).

I too miss House & Garden; it was amazing. Vogue Living is really expensive. I’m really glad I didn’t subscribe.
