Apartment and Photos by François Halard
by habituallychic
01 . 17 . 08Anyone who reads my blog knows that I love the photography of François Halard so I was very excited when I opened my February 2008 issue of Vogue to find the most amazing article about his home in Arles, France and his loft in New York, with photography of course by Monsieur Halard. I’ve posted a few of his New York apartment photos here and I don’t think they will ruin anything for you since there are many more in the magazine.
The loft was designed in a former warehouse by his nephew Bastien Halard who is an architect and it’s apparent that creativity runs in the family. The new space was designed to look old with a patina of age and to be an extension of his home in Arles. I love the mix of objects including an African mask on the faux plaster mantel above. You can just imagine François Halard collecting amazing souvenirs on his travels to photograph the most beautiful interiors of the world.
The article was a wonderful surprise and so interesting to read. Definitely pick up a copy of the new Vogue and I guarantee that you will be just as in awe as I was!

It’s stunning. Is this from the normal Vogue – i.e. no Vogue Living?
Suzy, It’s from regular Vogue. I mist say that it’s been getting better lately. I was surprised that they didn’t save it for the other magazine but I hear there is trouble in paradise over at Vogue Living. Seems Ms. Wintour isn’t too happy with it. Hope they get their act together over there since the Home section of the newstand is looking a little bare.
Hi there, OK I am LOVING your blog- but I admit, I’m a sucker for a good green couch. I dream of having something like this in my new shop–as this is one of my colors! Thanks, I’ll be checking back!!! Janice
And it looks like Vogue is giving us full-sized photos instead of the usual postage stamp size. Looking forward to it!
Goddess, I think I read in the article that Francois Halard designed the couch. You’ll have to buy the mag and check it out.
those kitchen lights are amazing!!
BA, Maybe Vogue scanned all the blogs to see what we were saying about their tiny photos and decided to give us bigger ones. Lol.
Exceptionally handsome apartment. The kitchen-floor tiles are amazing, as is that pitch-dark wall. And the living room seems to be quite dashing; and, yes, that dark green sofa is pretty swell.
Pink Wallpaper, the ceiling lights were found in Marseille. They would make a great design to have reproduced.
Aethete, there’sm even more beautiful things in the magazine that I didn’t post including a pretty amazing bathroom.
Love the depth and richness in the top photo. Amazing 🙂
‘sucker for a good green couch’ great name for a blog
This is one for the files. Thanks for the sneak peak.
The kitchen looks depressive, I am sure that guy is not using it at all, so design is as it is … It would more inspire me to burn the stuff then to cook something delicious.
WOW, beautiful and original. Must get my copy quick!
so gorgeous – love the rich tones! i hardly ever pick up vogue these days, but i guess i’ll be heading to the newsstand now… 🙂
